    Itinerary

    Day 1Arrival Paro (2200m)

    On arrival at Paro International airport. Our Representatives from Bhutan Himalayan Holidays will be there to receive you in Airport. Drive to hotel of check in 3 star hotels in Paro. First day of Bhutan birding will be in Paro.

    After lunch drive towards Paro River, which lies just beside the main valley of Paro. You can see Bhutan birds like Ibis bill, Brown Dipper, White-capped Water Redstart, River Lapwing, Plumbeous Water Redstart, etc.

    if we get time visit Kyichu Lhakhang and Paro fortress Rinpung Dzong. Overnight in Paro 3 star category. Dinner in Hotel.

    Day 2Birding in Paro(2200m)

    After early breakfast drive Chele La pass towards Haa road. Right timing would be morning 4:30 AM to 5:00 AM. The pass is on elevation of 3988 m.You can see birds like Kalij Pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Blood Pheasant and Himalayan Monal, Fire-tailed Myzornis. Overnight stay at hotel, Paro.

    Day 3Paro – Punakha 125km/approx. 4hours drive

    After breakfast drive to Punakha en route Dochu La pass at an elevation of 3,050 meters. After 30 -45 minutes drive from Thimphu  you can see snow-capped Himalayan ranges if the day is clear. Dochula pass at an elevation of 3100m, chances of sighting the Fire-tailed Myzornis, Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher, Tits, Warblers, Brown Parrotbill, Eurasian Jay and Yellow-billed Blue Magpie. From the Dochula pass you will be driving lower altitude of 1300 meter.

    You can spot many birds in Punakha. Visit Punakha Dzong & birding in the evening with a chance of observing the White-bellied Heron.

    Overnight stay at hotel (3 star category), Punakha.Dinner in hotel.

    Day 4 & 5Birding in Punakha(1300m) – Gasa stretch

    After breakfast drive towards Punakha valley along the river side. In this valley you will see Asian-barred Owlet, Great Cormorant, Jungle Owlet, Pallas’s Fish Eagle, Osprey, White-bellied Heron, Lesser Fish Eagle, Black-throated Yuhina, Black-throated Sunbird, Green-tailed Sunbird, Striped-throated Yuhina, Scarlet Minivet, Whiskered Yuhina, Straited Yuhina, Long-tailed Minivet, Grey-bellied Tesia, Fire-breasted Flowerpecker, Grey-chinned Minivet, Barred Cuckoo Dove, Asian Koel, Grey-hooded Warbler, Chestnut-headed Tesia, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Bay Woodpecker, Slaty-bellied Tesia, White-gorgeted Flycatcher, Lemon-rumped Warbler, Large Niltava, Small Niltava, Rufous-bellied Niltava, Great Barbet, Buff-barred Warbler, Blue-throated Barbet, Tickell’s Leaf Warbler, Pygmy Wren Babbler, Golden-throated Barbet, Golden-spectacled Warbler, Slaty-backed Forktail, Black-eared Shrike-babbler, Spotted Forktail, Black-backed Forktail, Blue-fronted Robin, Yellow-bellied Fantail, Yellow-throated Fulvetta,White-throated Fantail, White-tailed Nuthatch, Green Shrike-babbler, Maroon Oriole, Rusty-fronted Barwing, Hoary-throated Barwing, Scarlet Finch, Lesser Shortwing, Himalayan Cutia, Rufous-winged Fulvetta, Spotted Wren Babbler, Speckled Piculet, Orange-bellied Leafbird, Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon.

    If we get time we visit Punakha Dzong(fortress) and Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge. Overnight stay at hotel (3 star category), Punakha. Dinner in hotel.

    Day 6Punakha – Phobjikha(3100m)- 87km/ approx. 4hours drive

    After breakfast drive to Phobjikha through the black mountain region. The glacial valley is nesting grounds for the endangered Black-necked Crane in winter season. Visit Gangtey Monastery. After visiting you can hike Gangtey Phubjikha nature trail.

    In Phubjikha valley you can see Blue-capped Rock Thrush,Yellow-rumped Honeyguide, Great Parrotbill and many more.

    Important birding Phubjikha is black neck crane.

    Overnight in Phobjikha( 3 star category or Bhutanese Farm house).Dinner in hotel.

    Day 7Phobjikha – Trongsa(2200m) 80kms/ approx. 3 hours drive

    After breakfast drive for three hours through dense evergreen forests of Black mountains. You will be crossing Pele La (pass) at an elevation of 3390m. The species found in this area includes Spotted Laughingthrush, Common Kestrel, Himalayan Griffon, Nepal House Martin, Himalayan Swiftlet,Mountain Hawk Eagle, Streaked-breasted Scimitar Babbler,White-browed Rosefinch, Crested Serpent Eagle, Brown Parrotbill, Asian House Martin, Common Rosefinch, Beatiful Rosefinch, Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, Scaly-breasted Wren Babbler, and Speckled Wood Pigeon.

    You will see Trongsa Dzong and Ta-Museum. Overnight stay at hotel (3 star category), Trongsa.Dinner in Hotel.

    Day 8Trongsa(2200m) – Zhemgang (1900m)– Tingtibi 130km/ approx. 4.5hours drive

    After breakfast drive to Zhemgang and Tingtibi along the Mangde Chhu River. Visit Kuenga Rapten Palace. Proceed towards Zhemgang road. You can spot many birds in this region. Zhemgang is hot spot for different kinds of birds in Bhutan.

    You can spot Rufous-necked Hornbill, endangered White -bellied Heron as well as the Collared Treepie, Lesser Rufous-headed Parrotbill, Greater Necklaced Laughingthrush,Lesser-necklaced Laughingthrush, Beautiful Nuthatch and Greater Rufous-headed Parrotbill. On the way visit Kuenga Rapten Palace. Overnight stay in camp site.Dinner in campsite.

    Day 9, 10 & 11Birding in Tingtibi and Manas

    Breakfast at campsite. You will get chance to spot Tingtibi Great Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill, Lesser Yellownape and many more birds.. Overnight stay in camp site. Dinner at campsite.

    Day 12Tingtibi – Bumthang

    After breakfast drive to Bumthang. You will get chance to spot the Beautiful Nuthatch and the sapphire flycatcher. Then drive to Bumthang crossing over Yotong La pass 3,400m. You can spot also Chestnut-tailed Minla, Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush Black-faced Laughingthrush, Brown Parrotbill and Gold-naped Finch.

    Evening time walk along the Chamkhar River in Bumthang. You will get chance to spot the Little Bunting, Blyth’s pipit and Common Sandpiper.Red-billed Chough, Overnight stay at hotel, Bumthang(3 Star Category). Dinner in hotel.

    Day 13Bumthang(2334m)

    After breakfast in hotel you will get chance to spot out birds missed in the previous day. Visit Tharparling monastery in Bumthang to see Himalayan Monal and Satyr Tragopan.

    Today you will visit Jakar Dzong and few monasteries. Overnight stay at hotel, Bumthang(3 star).Dinner in hotel.

    Day 14Bumthang – Thimphu/Paro

    After early breakfast drive to Paro fly to Paro and on arrival check in hotel. Later in afternoon you will hike to Tiger’s nest if you are catching flight. Evening freely stroll in Paro town. Overnight stay at hotel, Thimphu/Paro.

    Day 15Departure (out bound journey)

    After early breakfast drive to Paro airport with our representatives from Bhutan Himalayan holidays for outbound journey.
